What is an acidified Ocean ?

CO2 dissolves in Water, that is how fizzy drinks are made bubbly. Even some mineral water drinks are carbonated. Some of this gas dissolves in the water turning into carbonic acid, which alters the pH of the water, and is partially the reason for increased dental decay in heavy users of soft drinks.

Coral is a lime deposit, as are the shells of molluscs. In acid conditions it is eroded. So increasing the CO2 in our atmosphere is risking our aquatic species and environment. For more details click on the following links.
