Port Phillip bay water quality

The EPA has sent us a message below

“We’re trialling a free SMS service which provides notifications when a ‘POOR’ water quality forecast is issued for Port Phillip Bay beaches. These notifications will allow Victorians to make informed decisions about swimming at beaches during the Beach Report season.” click on the last link to access the method of signing up for the alerts.

Much of why the water becomes unsuitable is a high e-coli reading, this predominantly comes from faecal matter, from dog owners who don’t remove droppings and it subsequently gets washed down storm water drains and eventually to the bay. Spread the word to help educate those who are not aware of the consequences of their neglect, or you could just ask “how much dog poo do you want to swim in?”
