yes this is political – BUT it is foremost an environmental issue

To our conservation community, and others who follow CCS issues.

Sometimes we need to take a stand, when our elected representatives allow bad choices to be implemented. So unfortunately in spite of CCS being apolitical, on this occasion, we are taking the decision to enlighten you about the backwards direction we are taking courtesy of our current State Government decision makers.

On Sunday 13th there is an opportunity to make your voice heard and be seen.

Please do not take offense at the “percieved anti party nature”  CCS does NOT endorse any particular political party, but seeks to push for the best environmental outcomes for us locally, and in the wider context of State and country.

Welcome back

You may not have been aware but CCS has been off line for about 10 days. Our problem was an issue of our domain name being transferred to a new business, without communication. Needless to say, we are now happy to be back where you can find us.

Things that have been newsworthy and you may wish to follow up further are the following

  • Ringwood Station and Interchange upgrade plans are up for comment. You can find all details and comment on line at the following

www.transport.vic.gov.au/projects/pt/ringwood-station-and-interchange-upgrade#

CCS is pleased with the new concept in that it respects the Clocktower park and makes the best of the space and facilities that currently work quite well. The major change is the reversal of direction of the bus movement. They will enter from the car park adjacent to the Clocktower, move East along the current taxi rank, and exit at the Eastern end of the interchange close to Warrandyte Rd . Other improvements are an integrated covered overpass with escalators and two new disability ramps of correct incline and design DDA compliant. Provision is also being made for a later stage separation of the pedestrian causeway to Eastland via an extension over the highway.

Deadline for comment is Monday 31st October.

  • Tecoma McDonalds was  refused, you can read the CCS objections Mc Donalds in Tecoma objection.
  • We have sent a letter of support to Dick Smith Foods, regarding the squeeze put on Australian growers by the “big two” retail food giants Letter to Dick Smith from CCS
  • CCS also responded to the Government National Food Plan review.  read here

We are currently working on the following

  • The irrigation situation (bun fight) for the Murray Darling river water allocations to leave minimum 1/3 water flow as a given, to ensure river health into the Coorong
  • The definition of the terminology and its relevance Old Growth Forests given our burn out so frequently, does any tree ever gain OGF status in reality.
  • The situation of reduction in funding to Environment Victoria, to act as a repository for community input to Sustainable transport solutions. Leaving the government to make their own decisions with little opportunity for input.
  • Finally we would love to get some feedback from you out there as to whether CCS is reflecting your values and commitment to Conservation and the Environment. Drop us a comment.

Tecoma residents opposing Mc Donalds

Great news so far. Good reason took precedence, and Council refused the application in the face of great public opposition. CCS was one of the “in principle” objectors.

You can read our Mc Donalds in Tecoma objection.

We now wait and see if McDonalds takes their issue to VCAT !!

succinct 2 min explanation of carbon tax- watch & listen

This is from the Australian Conservation Foundation

Thankyou for saying YES on 5 June 2011!

Congratulations to the 45,000 people who turned up to rallies around the country on World Environment Day. You stood up to SAY YES to action on climate change and YES to a price on pollution! What an amazing day.

You showed Australia that people power is gaining momentum. You are part of shifting the debate from fear mongering over the cost of action to positive change. You demonstrated that everyday Australians care about a clean energy future for our planet. Together, we said yes.
