AVAAZ Global movement

Our mission is a new global web movement with a simple democratic mission: to close the gap between the world we have, and the world most people everywhere want.

“Avaaz” means “Voice” in many Asian, Middle Eastern and Eastern European languages.

Across the world, most people want stronger protections for the environment, greater respect for human rights, and concerted efforts to end poverty, corruption and war. Yet globalization faces a huge democratic deficit as international decisions are shaped by political elites and unaccountable corporations — not the views and values of the world’s people.

Australian Conservation Foundation

1. Work towards a society which protects, sustains and restores the environment, and provides:

  • Healthy air, land, water and biological diversity
  • Sustainable cities and industries
  • A nuclear-free Australia
  • Action to protect the global environment

2. Stimulate public and political discussion of ideas and actions for the environment
3. Strengthen the organisation
4. Broaden and strengthen the environment movement

Who we are

We’re from all over the state. Some of us are “in” because we saw a problem we thought we could help solve. Some of us were individual activists who thought we could accomplish bigger things by working together. Some were invited because they have a skill, knowledge, or experience the organisation needs to achieve its objectives. Some of us were just looking for a meaningful job.

Regardless of why we’re in, we are all Victorians who want good things for our state. We believe safeguarding our environment will create jobs. Feed the economy. Sustain our natural resources. Save us money. And ensure a lush, healthy environment for generations to come.

Transition towns

Transition Towns is a worldwide movement of ordinary people finding ways of being sustainable and resilient for the health and wellbeing of our children, ourselves and our planet.  It can be applied to whatever kind of community you live in: suburb, city, town, village or even an island.
