Neighbourhood reserves
CCS is now very pleased to hear that Maroondah Council has, in the face of public pressure, reconsidered the potential sale of some 70 pockets of open space, neighbourhood reserves. These parcels of land provide safe recreational space for families with young children, they are close to home, usually devoid of flying objects, like cricket balls, and provide much needed green patches amongst our living environment. It makes sense in the current climate of
- increased density
- childhood obesity
- global warming
- unsafe large parks
for our community to have access to these open space assets, especially since this number has has previously been diminished, by approx one third, some 8 years ago during Council amalgamation. There was a commitment from Council at that time that revenue raised through the sale of these reserves would be set aside for acquisition of more appropriate land which could link already existing green pockets to provide habitat corridors.CCS would like to see the value of these green pocket reserves be fully supported by our Council, and ensure their useful continuity into the future.
